Natural Gas Generators
Natural gas generators are clean, efficient and affordable. You can save up to 40% compared to the cost of burning gasoline or diesel. Many homes and businesses already have gas pipelines in place, so a steady supply of the fuel is available. During a power outage, you can continue providing crucial power to refrigerator-freezers, lights, air conditioning and furnaces.
When the power is out, natural gas generators are the superior power source

New models have very smart engineering
You can get automatic start and automatic transfer switches. This means the generator will automatically sense when there is a power outage and turn on. Once the power is restored, the generator transfer switch will detect this and reconnect to the utility lines. The generator will then automatically switch off.
There are two types of natural gas generators
- Permanent (or stationary)
- Portable
Permanent systems are the best option to power a whole house during a long-term disruption. It is installed professionally and connected to the existing natural gas line, so it has a constant source of fuel. You don’t have to be at home when the power goes out because of the auto-start function. You can expect emergency power to start within 30 seconds. Stationary systems offer nearly unlimited hours of power. They offer convenience and protection when an ice storm downs power lines, a summer heat wave causes a brown out, or during a lighting storm-related outage.
Portable natural gas generators have the advantage of being more affordable, while offering dependable temporary power. They use tanks much like those you see on propane barbecue grills. You keep it stored, roll it out when you need it, hook up the gas tank, and press the button. They can be carried fairly easily, say to a vacation home or campsite. A long run time will require several tanks.
- Both types can power essential workplace computers and peripherals, the difference being the length of time they can accommodate.
Even a small generator can power several plug-in appliances. Consumer Reports offered the following ratings:
Small portable, 3,000 to 4,000 watts, powers items such as: a refrigerator, several lights, a sump pump, TV or microwave.
Large portable, 10,000 watts, powers all of the above and a water heater OR central air conditioning OR an electric range plus more lights.
The average stationary unit, 10,000 to 15,000 watts, powers all of the above and plus a washer and dryer, and for much longer.
Installing permanent natural gas generators
We will mount it outdoors, on a concrete or a mounting pad, and locate it near the closest natural gas line we can tap. It’s heavy, so you need not worry about it toppling. It must always operate on a level surface.
We will always locate your unit away from windows and doors in a well-ventilated area. This makes certain exhaust stays away from your home or business. However, natural gas generators do not produce a sharp odor like gasoline or diesel.
Natural gas is the greener way to produce power
It is the cleanest burning fossil fuel. Compared with oil, natural gas produces lower emissions of greenhouse gasses including carbon dioxide.
Other benefits of natural gas generators
Diesel and fuel oil might not be available during an extensive blackout, because the pumps at service stations require electricity and stations usually close. Of the existing ways to generate electricity, natural gas requires the least amount of major scheduled maintenance.
